Time for Change President Obama - This Time You Need to Change

Well, we lost Ted Kennedy's seat in Massachusetts, to a teabag Republican no less. Martha Coakley took a vacation during the heart of a short campaign. Not a good thing to do, even when you did have a 15 point lead when you left.

Being an optimist, I prefer to see the silver lining. Here's my hope, that President Obama will see this as a wake-up call. President Obama and the Congressional Democrats can't play nice with the Republicans any more. No more letting the minority control this country and what kind of legislation America gets. Democrats' new mantra should be, What Would Tom Do, (Tom DeLay). Democrats need to start leading and kicking ass and taking names.

The base is frustrated with President Obama and his conciliatory tone. He needs to fight for the things he campaigned on and give the base something to get excited about.

While the pundits are saying that the Democrats overreached with their health care plan, the internal polling shows that's not the case. Voters in Massachusetts that voted for President Obama in 2008 are frustrated that the health care bill didn't go further.

Recent polling shows that President Obama's approval rating still remains high, 56%.

56% is that an MSNBC poll? Because pollster.com has him under 50% which is not good. In fact it's the lowest of any President in modern history. Why do you lie? Keep pushing to the left you're only helpping us get rid of Democtats for decades.

Actually, Chris, it's you that is lying. This poll proves it.

People are disappointed President Obama isn't moving more decisively to the left and making good on more of his campaign promises.

That is the lesson I hope the Democrats learn from MA.

They have had enough of Obama's crusade to force a multi-trillion-dollar health-care “reform” on America, replacing private healthcare with a government-run system that will empower federal bureaucrats to make life-and-death decisions about your medical care.

They have had enough of the out-of-control spending on bailouts and "stimulus" that have sent the federal deficit soaring to $1.8 trillion for 2009 alone -- and even higher down the road -- threatening to bankrupt our nation, destroy our currency, and impoverish our descendents for generations to come

They have had enough of the outrageous threats to investigate and prosecute Bush-era anti-terrorist agents and officials for the heroic work they did in keeping our country safe -- while giving confessed terrorists like 9/11 mastermind Khalid Sheik Muhammed a civilian trial in NYC

They have had enough of Obama's proposed tax hikes and tax "surcharges" to pay for all his spending programs that will drive U.S. tax rates higher even than the welfare-state economies of Europe (New Yorkers, for instance, could face a combined federal-state income tax rate of nearly 60 percent)

They have had enough of the appalling rogue's gallery of crooks, cronies, tax cheats, and political big-spending leftists that Obama has appointed to the highest levels of our government -- while firing or abruptly "retiring" official government watchdogs who have blown the whistle on his cronies and their schemes

They have had enough of the endless procession of unelected "czars" President Obama has appointed -- 32 at last count! -- to bring one sector after another of our economy and government under his direct control (come to think of it, why don't we just call him "Czar Obama"?)

They have had enough, in short, of how President Obama and his allies are rapidly destroying so much of what has made our country prosperous and free -- while arrogating to themselves a degree of power that would make Hugo Chavez blush.

Anonymous, you are just flat out wrong.

This poll shows that independents moved toward Brown because the Democrats did too little, not too much.

You live in a very small right-wing world.

A columnist for the Boston Globe believes that unless President Obama makes some changes to his political agenda quickly, his party will experience a "bloodbath" in November.

Jeff Jacoby at the Boston Globe says Republican Scott Brown's convincing victory Tuesday for the U.S. Senate makes it clear that even in the "bluest of Blue states," no political seat is guaranteed forever. He says Democrats in Washington are now forced to realize that they too could be challenged and potentially dislodged from office.

"This wasn't as much a Republican victory as it was, I think, a backlash against Democrats and against a style of governance that President Obama and Democratic leaders in Congress have been pushing very hard and in a very partisan way over the past year," states the columnist. (See earlier comments from Jacoby)

Jacoby writes in a new column that Democrat Martha Coakley's loss in the special Senate election in Massachusetts may actually be a blessing in disguise for President Obama.

"I think that this is a chance for him to think very hard about the way he has governed so far and to read the writing on the wall," he suggests, "and to recognize that unless he wants his party to go through a bloodbath in the mid-term elections this November, he needs to make some changes -- and he needs to make them quickly. If he does that, then I think that the brightest days of the Obama administration may still be to come."

In light of recent GOP victories in Virginia, New Jersey, and Massachusetts,

what change in behavior - if any - do you expect to see

from Capitol Hill Democrats?
Obama's popularity

According to Gallup, no president beginning his second year in the White House has been as unpopular as Obama currently is. The polling group sees "obvious political peril" for the president in decreasing public approval.

"When presidents' approval ratings have been below 50 percent in a midterm election year, their party has tended to suffer heavier seat losses," states a Gallup report.

After averaging a 57-percent job approval rating during his first year in office, recent numbers (Oct. 20, 2009 - Jan. 19, 2010) have generally hovered around the 50-percent mark, notes Gallup
Bruce You are right and Anon is wrong. You Progressives need to push Obama and the Democrats farther to the left. You are right now put on the head and protest. If there is anything I can do to help you destroy the Democrat party let me know. You need to get everyone to write letters and become more active or Obama and Congress numbers will keep going down. Don't let those Blue Dogs stop you either. Pull out the Rules For Radicals book of yours and start pushing the conservative Blue Dogs and Independents or vote them out.

Chris, you think you have this all figured out. But the American people aren't as stupid as you are.

The polling underneath the surface are saying that they want more from the administration, not less.

They want the problems solved, and they don't want the status quo.

I am hoping that the Democrats learn the right lessons and don't move to the right. They want a stronger health care bill, not a weaker one.

They want more regulation of the banks and Wall Street, not less. Based on what President Obama said today, the President gets it and he's pushed aside Larry Summers in favor of Paul Volcker, a good start.

Yeh Bruce, I know I'm not that smart so maybe you could help me understand something in your Progressive theory of what the Brown miracle worked. According to you the voters of Mass. voted for Brown because they want a public option, right? Coakley was for a public option and Brown was against this health care bill and said he would vote it down. That doesn't make any sense to me. Why would someone vote against the person that would vote for a public option and the health care reform if that is what they truly wanted? Take your time. Maybe if dj isn't calling everyone that posts on your blog Chris he could shead some light on your brainiac theories of why people voted for Brown even though they wanted the publica option. And I'm the dumb one right?

Bruce Fealk said...

Chris, the problem was that a lot of the Obama voters stayed home and a lot of the independents voted for Brown.

Put that together with a disheartened Democratic base and a bad candidate that went on vacation during the heart of the campaign and you have a recipe for a Brown victory.

"I know I'm not that smart"

That's the most honest thing I ever heard Chris say!

Oh no! Now Chris might go to a local newspaper board and pretend he's me again! Whatever shall I do?!

Well Chris, I believe my last comment was responding to a man that calls himself Chris, who has your picture and admits that he's not very smart.

I don't call everyone on this blog you. Just the one's that are you.

What are you going to do now? You going to pretend to be me on a local newspaper board now? You going to take your "Donald" avatar and go wild on the internets?

Pretending to be me is so flattering. And illegal. But flattering.
