More Republican Shenanigans at the Oakland County Commission
Today, however, the Republicans took the outrageous step of not allowing Spector to be officially named vice chair because they felt it would give her an undue advantage in the upcoming election. Bottom line, the Republicans blocked the Democrats from choosing their own leadership.

Community Protest at John McCain's Farmington Office
Families facing home foreclosure outraged at news they may lose their vote, too
Jobs with Justice, a coalition of community, labor and faith organizations whose goal is rights for workers and working families, and the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now (ACORN) held a peaceful demonstration outside of John McCain’s regional Midwest headquarters Friday afternoon. They were protesting a GOP plan to disqualify voters whose homes had been foreclosed, a plan that GOP officials later denied having.
Jobs for Justice and ACORN members planned on personally delivering a letter to the McCain campaign calling for the resignation of Macomb County GOP chairman James Carabelli, but the campaign staff refused to accept the letter.
Instead, they called the police and asked everyone to remove their cars from “private property.”
The police officer that responded was cordial, but said protesters had to move their cars. He suggested that the letter be delivered through registered mail instead.
Nancy Hemminger, an ACORN member whose home is in the process of being foreclosed, was angered at their refusal to accept the letter. ” They don’t want to see us ’cause putting a face to the problem may or may not cause them to [lose] sleep at night,” she said.
Jobs with Justice also requested a meeting to discuss concerns over voting rights in the letter that now will be delivered to the McCain offices by mail.
The demonstration started at noon despite rain, and protesters gathered under umbrellas to show their commitment to making sure voters’ voices were heard.

Republicans Want to Deny Vote to Voters in Foreclosure

Sign below and tell John McCain and the Republican Party to stop their outrageous plans to prevent Michigan residents who have lost their homes to foreclosures from voting this November!
Republican Party officials have admitted they plan to suppress the vote in November of families that have lost their homes. Plans include party officials who will monitor polls on election day and use foreclosure lists in an attempt to stop voters who have lost their homes from casting their ballots (MI Messenger 9/10/08).
Families who have lost their homes to foreclosure should not be kicked when they are down. Their homes have already been taken away from them because of the disastrous economic policies of the last eight years and the unfair, policies of the Bush administration.
Do not take away their right to vote this November. Having lost their homes, losing their right to vote would be a slap in the face of all Americans.

Troy Eccentric: Activist Protests Appointment of GOP Member to Commission
Activist protests appointment of GOP member to commission
By Steve Kowalski • ECCENTRIC STAFF WRITER • September 11, 2008
Democratic activist Bruce Fealk showed up at the Sept. 4 public meeting of the Oakland County Board of Commissioners to protest the appointment of Republican Glenn Clark to replace Democrat George W. Suarez in District 24.
Suarez died of cancer Aug. 12, and nine days later, the county commission voted along party lines, 13-11, to appoint Clark until the end of the two-year term, Dec. 31.
Clark is a Troy resident, party delegate and 9th Congressional District GOP chairman. Republican Robert Gosselin, the District 13 commissioner from Troy, nominated Clark.
"I come before (the commission) to express my outrage at the appointment of a Republican, Glenn Clark, to replace the recently deceased George Suarez," Fealk read in a statement. "Glenn Clark represents the far right wing of the Republican party."
Fealk, a Rochester Hills resident, described Clark as "a political bully" and said "Bob Gosselin and the rest of the Republicans on this commission should be ashamed of themselves for committing such an open act of partisan politics."
Suarez, who lived in Madison Heights, had been the district representative since 1999. Democrat Gary McGillivray and Republican Daniel K. Milz, both from Madison Heights, are opponents in the November election. With a Republican temporarily filling the District 24 seat, the GOP has a 14-11 edge on the board.
Gosselin called Fealk a "partisan bully."
"Fealk is just a Democrat activist that carries things way over the top," Gosselin said. "He's very offensive, writes bizarre editorials, is looking to pick a fight. It's sad to say that we have bullies in society like that."
Fealk won the Progressive Activist of the Year award earlier this year, given by Blogging for Michigan, and he has been known to confront District 9 Congressman Joe Knollenberg (R-Bloomfield), who is running for re-election against Gary Peters (D-Bloomfield Township).
Gosselin introduced Clark to the Troy City Council at Monday's public meeting.
"He's a liberal Democrat, I'm a conservative Republican," Clark said, when asked about Fealk's protest. "If he doesn't care for me, that's his right. America is a great place and the First Amendment right is a great concept."

Our Condolences to Representative Levin and family
Rep. Sander Levin’s wife Victoria Levin dies at 74
ROYAL OAK (AP) — Victoria Levin, the wife of U.S. Rep. Sander Levin and an advocate for research on children’s mental health issues, died Thursday, the congressman’s office said. She was 74.
Vicki Levin had struggled for several months with breast cancer and died peacefully early Thursday morning surrounded by her family, Levin’s office said.
She was married to the congressman for more than 50 years and served as his close political adviser. Before Levin was elected to Congress in 1982, she worked full-time on her husband’s gubernatorial campaigns in 1970 and 1974.
In a statement, the congressman’s family called the Levin marriage a “half-century partnership that served as a very public model of love, shared public service and progressive advocacy for so many people in
Sen. Carl Levin, D-Mich., the congressman’s younger brother, credited his sister-in-law for her ability to “nurture and help keep steady her large and active family, while excelling at her own independent professional career.”
Vicki Levin worked for nearly three decades as a science research officer for several agencies within the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. Her interest in children with mental health challenges prompted her husband to lead an effort to rewrite

Barack Obama in Detroit on Labor Day
A picture really is worth a thousand words
But I was wrong. He said he'd been over to the Republican booth and they slapped the McCain sticker on him and he'd been a Democrat all his life and practically ordered me to put an Obama sticker OVER his McCain sticker. He made my day.
