Tea Party Candidate Wants to Hang Her Opponent

The tea baggers deny that they encourage violence. At this campaign rally in Asotin, Washington one of the speakers made the statement that suggested one of the Senators from the state of Washington should be hung. Now, I'm for a good political contest as much as the next person, but saying your opponent should be hung is just plain wrong, especially when our country has its first African American President.

I would hope that others in the Tea Party movement would come out and denounce this despicable statement and that leaders in the Republican party will also denounce the violence that is encouraged by this idiotic person and her statement. The quote from the speaker is posted below.

"How many of you have watched the movie Lonesome Dove?," asked one speaker from the podium. "What happened to Jake when he ran with the wrong crowd? What happened to Jake when he ran with the wrong crowd. He got hung. And that's what I want to do with Patty Murray."

Competitive politics is one thing, inciting violence against one's opponent is a despicable act that needs to be called out in the strongest terms possible. I challenge my conservative readers to make their comments denouncing this king of speech.

I think it was a tasteless joke. Just like this blog post. You are joking about blaming the Tea Party for what one women said as a dumb joke aren't you? It's no wonder why no one takes you fringe left seriously.

A zillion years ago, when I had a college English class, they talked about "charged" words. Words that carried an emotional response beyond the context of the sentence they were used in. I have noticed that the Right uses these words prodigiously. Hard to say that any given "speech" could invoke violence - but for sure - words matter.

A tasteless joke, really? Then why don't you denounce it, Chris? I'm sure if a Democrat made a similar statement it would be all over right wing media and you'd be calling for the person to be fired or worse.l

Chris - tasteless joke? Tasteless, I will agree with you. But a "joke'? Not all satire can be called a joke. You may not think that referencing a hanging should be taken literally, but I think she was serious about implying a physical retribution for the ideas expressed by her opponent. There is a solid difference between that and such cliches we all hear often like "I'd kill for a cold brew right about now"!!! Perhaps it is a case of being too "thin skinned" on this one remark - but given the vitriol on so many signs at these tea party gatherings - one has to wonder.

Bruce I hear you had a meeting. How many people showed up? What was it all about? Don't be so quick to jump on them when we do the same thing. I've said worse then that. This post isn't very real. Sorry brother. Just telling it the way it is.
