Have You Noticed The Lack of Minorities at Tea Parties?

I have. When ever they show crowd shots of a tea party gathering, whether it's local or a national gathering on the Mall in D.C. there is a definite lack of minorities in the crowds. If you ask the tea partiers they will deny being racist. Then there was the speech of former Congressman Tom Tancredo at the Tea Party Nation recently in Nashville, where Tancredo called for a return of Jim Crowe laws. But they're not racists, are they? Last night on Countdown, Keith Olbermann addressed this issue. I wonder if they have to pay some African Americans to show up to these "friendly" meetings. MEDEFCO has invited all the Michgian gubernatorial candidates to speak. Sounds like something even I should be welcome to attend.

A local tea party group, MEDEFCO will be holding a meeting on Tuesday, February 23 at Barrister Gardens 24225 Harper Avenue, St. Clair Shores at 7 p.m.

Apparently I'm not welcome, according to Brian Pannebecker, one of the leaders of MEDEFCO.
The MEDEFCO meeting is a private monthly meeting of supporters of our Constitution who want to take our government back.

Anti-Tea Party protesters and agitators will NOT be allowed inside to disrupt the meeting, especially "low-life lurkers" like Bruce Fealk.
The St.Clair Shores Police will be more than happy to help us prevent disturbances from left-wing wackos like Fealk and his buddys.

Ahh, who wants to go to that Party of Regressives anyhow!!! Although I do know how to spell the word VOTE - and I can say it in relatively good English.

I think it would be interesting to see how many minorities there are at the meeting.

Other than wallowing in self pity and recriminations - I have to wonder - will there be any concrete and contructive suggestions to "fix" things? I doubt it!

Did you see what happened in St Louis? That black man got beat within an inch of his life by SEIU thugs. Maybe that' why...

silverfiddle - check your facts. At best there are claims and counter claims, with witnesses offering very contrary testimony. And I could find nothing of late to indicate any lawsuits have gone forward. The "fact" you present of a black man being beaten within a inch of his life is a total fabrication. You really have to quit depending on Fox Noise to give you an honest story.

But this one incident does not change the claim that few if any minorities are attracted to the Tea Party movement. Why not?? One does not have to be a shrink or a Rhodes scholar to surmise the reason has to do with an underlying contempt for minorities - be they immigrants or President of the United States.

I actually have minority friends, and most think it's better just to mind your own business. Not so much for Hispanics, but way more so for black people.

Black conservatives are a rarity. Less so blacks who see the democratic party as for the minority vote harvester it is.

Regardless, most just shut their mouths because its not worth the hassle and the arguments with loved ones, and I can't really blame them.

There are still a lot of racial hangups in this country. I never realized it until I got out of the military.

Silverfiddle, that's just not true. Minorities are attracted to the Democratic party because they share values with the Democratic party.

There are so few minorities in the Republican party, they probably pay people to be on camera during the Republican convention.

Black conservative is practically an oxymoron. President Obama got something like 98% of the black vote.

So the fact that your minority friends agree with you proves exactly what? Do you have enough minority friends to constitute a scientific poll? I don't think so.

There are a lot of racial issues in this country and they are well represented within the tea party movement. I wonder how many minorities were in Nashville. I don't believe there were any minority speakers at the Tea Party Nation, nor will there be any or very few at the CPAC in D.C. this weekend.

Bruce you said,"Not so much for Hispanics, but way more so for black people."
Why would you use "Hispanics" in with a large "H" and then in a small "b" you call use "black people"? Why the difference? My friend pointed this out to me and it doesn't look good. I told him there is no way you are a racist. But he has a good point.

Jay-Ney, the quote you use is not from me, they were from Silverfiddle. They were in quotes if you had read the post carefull, so please direct your comments to Silverfiddle.

No, your friend doesn't have a good point. Here's a good rule to remember when deciding whether to capitalize or not.

Capitalize names of races (African American, Caucasian, Asian, Hispanic and Native American), but do not capitalize "black" or "white" when referring to race.

Paul - well said - straight out of the primer on grammar!! The only exception of course would be if either of those words referenced, were at the beginning of a sentence. But in fairness to one and all - this isn't a seminar on grammatical usage, but a forum for political thought and debate. If we can reasonably convey our point of view, then we should all ignore an occasional slip in proper grammar - or spelling.

Good catch voma, I actually intended to mention that, but forgot. Thanks for pointing it out.
